I am writing to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Stratford Rural Schools Federation governing board. I would also like to pay tribute to Eric Appleton who has led the Federation so successfully as Chair over the last few years.
My name is Ian Pavey and I am currently Chair of Governors at Evergreen School in Warwick. Evergreen is a special needs school which was formed recently by merging Ridgeway primary and Round Oak secondary schools to create an all-through school. I was Chair of Governors at Ridgeway, and Chair of the Interim Executive Board that Warwickshire County Council put in place at Round Oak school to lead on school improvement that resulted in the merger.
By way of background, I am a retired Senior Civil Servant and have worked in both public and private sectors. I live with my partner, Madi, and we have a 12-year old son, Luke. I am also father to two older children and have three grandchildren.
As Chair of Governors, I will work closely with the Governing Board, the Executive Head and Heads of each school. Collectively, we will build on all the good practice at the schools to ensure we achieve the best educational outcome and support for every child.
My focus will be on ensuring that we have clarity of purpose and financial stability for each of the schools, and that we rigorously measure the progress and attainment of every child so we can quickly put improvements in place if required.
None of this will be possible without the involvement and commitment of everybody at the schools; the Heads, teachers, teaching assistants, administration team and caretakers, and I will work hard to achieve that. It also involves the wholehearted involvement and support of the parents and carers of children at the school. Although the current Covid restrictions make it more difficult to meet with as many of you as I would normally be able to, at the school gate or school events, I would still very much like to hear your experience of the schools, so if you would like to get in contact do please drop me a line at email@example.com (note, this is not to address or instigate any formal complaint, that should be done in line with the School Complaint Policy).
During the coming months I will continue to keep you updated and I would welcome feedback at any time. I look forward to getting to know the schools better and, working with the broader school community, provide whatever help and support I can.
