"If you can't explain it simply, you do not understand it well enough,"
Mathematics equips children with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change their world. These tools include logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think in abstract ways.
At Loxley Primary School we use the White Rose scheme, which incorporiates daily opportunities for children to apply their mathematical knowledge and strategies to reasoning and problem solving alongside regular fluency practice. Following this mastery approach, we encourage children to begin in the concrete before moving through a range of pictorial models into the abstract.
We also recognise that mathematics can be a very creative discipline - it can stimulate moments of wonder when a child finally finds a solution to a problem, or suddenly starts to see connections. Mathematics builds reslience and eqips children with vital skills to help them in everyday life and as such forms a very important part of our core curriculum.
