Thank you to Mrs Ballantine and the School Council for organising such a FANTASTIC Australia Day fundraiser today. Our Australia Day started with a special assembly, where Mrs Ballantine and the children of the School Council explained the impact of the devastating bushfires on the Australian environment and its indigenous wildlife population. Some scientists estimate that the bushfires may have wiped out as many as 1 billion animals, severely depleting the numbers of many unique and precious species, including much-loved koalas whose numbers in the wild are thought to have been reduced by at least 30%.
Being a school filled with animal-lovers the Breaktime Bake Sale held in aid of raising money to help to rescue koalas, who have been injured or made homeless by the fires, was a real hit! Thank you to all those families who donated cakes to support us, whether your cakes were shop bought or homemade (and there were some truly fabulous Australian-themed homemade ones!). By paying a donation to dress up in yellow or green, and by donating and purchasing cakes, the children and staff's joint efforts today have raised an AMAZING £152, all in aid of such a great, global cause. What another super example of our children taking social action to make a positive impact their world - children, we are very proud of you all!
