Children's Author Visit

As part of the Stratford-Upon-Avon Literary Festival, Loxley Primary School received a visit from children's author and poet, James Carter.  James has written a selection of children's books and poems, such as space-themed 'The Big Beyond'. This engaging author delivered an exciting, interactive workshop about space, which included the children learning how to write kennings - an old English and Norse form of poetry packed with metaphors.  Each class linked their kennings to their own curriculum learning - Class 1 wrote their kennings about whales (linked to their reading of 'The Snail and The Whale' by Julia Donaldson); Class 2 wrote kennings about hedgedhogs (linked to their reading of 'The Hodgeheg' by Dick King Smith) and Class 3 wrote Anglo Saxon kennings (linked to their work in history).  At the end of the session, children had the opportunity to chat with James and to have their books signed.  What a great experience for the children, which I'm sure they will all remember!
