Intent
At Loxley CE Community Primary School, we aim to prepare our learners for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for a world in which technology will be at the centre. We aim to ensure our pupils are competent in using a wide range of technology and software as well as ensuring they have a secure understanding of the issues surrounding Online Safety. Our children will be taught to use technology responsibly and carefully, being mindful of how their behaviour, words and actions can affect others.
Implementation
- Use of the Purple Mash computing curriculum, focusing on a progression of skills in the following strands:
digital literacy, - computer science,
- information technology and
- online safety
- Opportunities to regularly revisit these strands to ensure the learning is embedded and skills are successfully developed, while covering all aspects of the computing curriculum.
- Build on prior knowledge/learning.
- Online safety is delivered throughout the curriculum in order to embed the important message it provides.
- Through the teaching of Computing, PSHE and reactive lessons, we hope our pupils gain a deep understanding of the dangers they may face, how they can stay safe online and who they can seek for support.
- We ensure that Computing is embedded in our whole school curriculum and that opportunities for enhancing learning by using technology are taken wherever suitable/possible.
- Children’s work will be stored on Purple Mash for reference and assessment.
- Access to a range of resources  (such as iPads, Beebots and interactive whiteboards)  and software (such as Purple Mash, My Maths and TT Rockstars).

Impact
Pupils leave Loxley with an understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science. They will become competent in using core software programmes such as word processing and data representation, allowing them to continue their education into KS3 with confidence. Their logic and problem-solving skills are enhanced, having had repeated practical experience of writing computer programs and they are prepared for the ever-changing modern word of technology.
Progress in Computing is demonstrated through reviewing and scrutinising children’s work, to ensure that progression of skills is taking place, through outcomes and through children’s ability to talk confidently about their work.
We aim for our pupils to leave Loxley CE Community Primary School as responsible, experienced, self-assured and safe users of information and communication technology.
