Global Worship

Every Tuesday at Loxley, our Collective Worship takes the form of Global Worship — a time when we look outward from our village and our school to consider the wider world through the lens of our Christian values.

We use Picture News as the foundation for this worship. Picture News is a carefully curated weekly resource that presents a real-world news story alongside thought-provoking questions, helping children make sense of the world around them in an age-appropriate way. Rather than simply learning about what is happening in the world, our children are invited to respond to it — asking what it means for us as human beings, what our responsibilities are to one another, and how our Christian values might guide our response.

How we use Picture News at Loxley

Each week's Picture News session is led by Mrs Thackway and follows a simple but powerful structure: we look at the image together, we discuss the story it represents, we ask the Big Question, and we consider what our values — as individuals, as a school community, and as Christians — call us to think, feel, or do in response.

Children bring the same curiosity, compassion and courage to Global Worship that they bring to everything at Loxley. Discussions are lively, reflective and often moving. Children regularly make connections between the world's events and the values they explore in worship throughout the week.

This approach reflects our school's commitment to nurturing children who are not just successful learners, but thoughtful, caring and courageous citizens — aware of their place in a much bigger world, and inspired by the example of Jesus to make it a better one.

The Difference Programme

Alongside Picture News, our school also participates in The Difference — a schools programme that develops children's ability to understand, navigate and embrace difference and conflict in healthy ways. The Difference equips children with the language, habits and understanding to engage positively with those whose lives look different from their own. You can find out more at difference.rln.global.
